Topdog / Underdog (Anglais)

A darkly comic fable of brotherly love and family identity. Topdog/Underdog tells the story of two brothers, Lincoln and Booth. Their names, given to them by their father as a joke, foretell a lifetime of mutual antagonism and resentment. Haunted by the past and their obsession with the street con game, three-card monte, the brothers are forced to confront the shattering reality of their future.

Topdog/Underdog was first performed at the Joseph Papp Public Theatre, New York in 2001, starring Mos Def and Jeffrey Wright. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The next year it opened on Broadway, at the Ambassador's Theatre, where it played for several months. This production then played at the Royal Court Theatre, London in 2003. In 2022 it played at the John Golden Theatre, starring Corey Hawkins and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, winning the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.
