Résumé
Le pianiste FRANCO D'ANDREA a démarré sa carrière par un disque en compagnie du saxophoniste GATO BARBIERI en 1964. Il fonde ensuite le MODERN ART TRIO, le groupe de fusion PERIGEO, puis va se produire en compagnie de TINO TRACANNA, GLENN FERRIS, DAVID BOATO, LEE KONITZ, PHIL WOODS, DAVE LIEBMAN ou JEAN-LUC PONTY. Il s'est distingué en France surtout pour sa participation au quartette d'ALDO ROMANO de 1987 à 1993. Ici, trois concerts enregistrés au Parco della Musica de Rome en 2014 : le premier en trio (avec BENNINK et DOUGLAS),
le 2e en sextette au répertoire largement consacré aux compositions de THELONIOUS MONK mettant en valeur la haute inspiration et l'originalité des jazzmen italiens, "cependant, c'est en solo (3e concert) que FRANCO D'ANDREA fait le plus merveille, slalomant dans des morceaux connus (I Got Rhythm, Naima, King Porter Stomp, 'Round midnight, I've Found a New Baby, Lover Man) et des compositions à lui particulièrement stimulantes.
