Après la sortie sur Bandcamp de "The Black Hole Understands" - un album enregistré en 2020 - les Cloud Nothings de Dylan Baldi annoncent un album studio plus conventionnel. Enregistré avec Steve Albini, le légendaire producteur qui a aidé Cloud Nothings à devenir un groupe à part entière en 2012 avec l'excellent album 'Attack On Memory'. 'The Shadow I Remember' est en partie un retour aux sources pour le groupe post-hardcore. Cependant, l'album présente également d'autres éléments pour la première fois, tels que des choeurs et des parties de synthétiseurs.
