Multi-instrumentiste maîtrisant les saxophones alto et baryton, la flûte et la clarinette, William B. Lasha, alias Prince Lasha, a marqué de son empreinte le free jazz des années 1960. Enregistré en 1962 avec la participation du saxophoniste alto Huey Simmons et du contrebassiste Gary Peacock, l'aventureux The Cry! s'appuie sur huit compositions marquées par l'influence d'Ornette Coleman et de surprenantes ouvertures sur le blues (« Red's Wood ») et les rythmes latins (« Juanita »). Cette réédition fait partie de la collection audiophile « Contemporary Records Acoustic Sounds » et bénéficie d'un nouveau mastering analogique à partir des bandes master par Bernie Grundman ainsi que de la pochette et de notes d'origine dans un packaging soigné.
