Pour célébrer le 150ème anniversaire de la naissance du compositeur Carl Nielsen (1865-1931), le chef d'orchestre finlandais John Storgårds, à la tête du BBC Philharmonic, propose l'intégrale de ses six symphonies.Oeuvre magistrale que ces symphonies qui racontent l'émancipation du compositeur depuis ses premiers modèles Bach, Mozart, Brahms et Grieg vers l'expérimentation de l'atonalité puis l'affranchissement radical des formes de composition traditionnelles. Peu de compositeurs ont regardé la vie et la musique en face comme il l'a fait, allant jusqu'à mettre en musique l'attaque cardiaque à laquelle il a survécu.L'interprétation de John Storgårds est à l'image du parcours original du compositeur : sincère et authentique.
