La quintessence de la musique italienne pour cordes.
Le nom de Corelli domine une période cruciale dans l'histoire de la musique instrumentale. Des années 1681 à 1713, entre lesquelles se situe sa production, la sonate préclassique et le concerto grosso atteignent grâce à lui un degré de maturité qui les désigne comme modèles à tous les compositeurs de sa génération. Dans le même temps, son oeuvre, entièrement consacrée aux archets, et la façon dont il l'exécute et l'enseigne fixent un art du violon qui guidera pendant près d'un siècle les diverses écoles européennes, et dont les éléments premiers sont encore à la base des techniques d'aujourd'hui.
Ce nouvel enregistrement de l'ensemble Stravaganza, met en relief, sous l'archet de Domitille Gilon et Rie Kimura, les subtilités de l'art du « prince des violonistes » sans lequel les compositeurs de l'Europe baroque n'auraient pu nous transmettre tant de joyaux.
