C'est le quatrième CD de Paavali Jumppanen de son cycle d'enregistrements des Sonates de Beethoven. Le pianiste a travaillé avec de nombreux compositeurs contemporains et a créé de nombreuses oeuvres pour piano solo et de chambre. Il a travaillé avec de nombreux compositeurs de prestige comme Pierre Boulez, William Duckworth, Henri Dutilleux, ainsi qu'avec des composteurs de sa Finlande natale. C'est un pianiste de renommée internationale, interprète de talent à la fois en tant que soliste de concert, musicien de chambre et récitaliste. Son large répertoire couvre la littérature de piano allant de Bach à l'Avant-garde.
