Bright Cecilia Taverner Consort & Players / Andrew Parrott HAENDEL : Alexander's feast, dédié à Sainte Cécile Choir Of King's College, Cambridge, English Chamber Orchestra / Philip Ledger HAYDN : Messe à Ste Cécile Choeurs et orchestre de la Fondation Gulbekian / Michel Corboz PRESENTATION 2009 verra célébrer 3 anniversaires de compositeurs présents au Panthéon de l'Histoire de la Musique : Haendel (mort en 1759), Purcell (né en 1659) et Haydn (disparu en 1809). Ce coffret de 3CD pour le prix d'1 mid réunit les 3 compositeurs de façon originale, à travers une oeuvre de chacun écrite en l'honneur de Sainte Cécile, patronne de la musique. Martyre chrétienne de la Rome du IIe siècle, la dépouille de Sainte Cécile fut transférée au IXe siècle par le pape dans l'Eglise du Trastevere, qui porte son nom depuis 1599. Sainte Cécile fut vénérée par l'Eglise depuis le Ve siècle, et la première confrérie de Sainte Cécile fut inaugurée en 1570 à la Cathédrale d'Evreux . en 1585 fut fondée à Rome l'Académie Sainte Cécile, principale institution musicale de la ville aujourd'hui.
