Résumé
Jusqu'à la fin de l'Ancien Régime, l'une des principales activités des compositeurs - et l'un de leurs principaux moyens de subsistance - était celle de " maître de chapelle ", c'est-à-dire la direction de la musique qui était jouée lors des offices auxquels assistaient les membres des familles princières qui les employaient.Si cela concernait le plus généralement les offices ordinaires, parfois même quotidiens, ces compositeurs devaient aussi fournir des musiques spécifiques pour certains événements parfois inattendus, comme une victoire militaire qui devait être célébrée par un Te Deum ou, plus tristement, le décès d'un souverain. Pour ce coffret de 5 CD, Alpha Classics a réuni 8 requiems, de la Messe pour Anne de Bretagne composée par Antoine de Févin, à la Messe de la cérémonie pour le retour de la dépouille de Louis XVI composée par Luigi Cherubini. livret 24 pages par Jérôme Lejeune
