Après les grands élans beethoveniens, voici le Quatuor Ebène, rejoint par Antoine Tamestit à l'alto et Nicolas Altstaedt au violoncelle, parti pour un voyage nocturne, cet état d'arrêt apparent si inspirant, tant pour le compositeur que pour l'auditeur.Cette inspiration nocturne, qui a donné lieu à tant d'oeuvres en musique, en peinture ou en littérature, nourrit le programme de ce disque concocté par le Quatuor Ébène - et même, en partie, écrit par l'un de ses membres : le violoncelliste Raphaël Merlin a imaginé la fresque 'Night Bridge' faisant un pont idéal entre 'Ainsi la nuit' de Dutilleux et 'La Nuit transfigurée' ('Verklärte Nacht') de Schoenberg, deux véritables chefs d'oeuvre du 20e siècle.
