Résumé
Leader de la New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Saxon connut un succès massif au milieu des années 80, notamment grâce aux albums Power and The Glory et Crusader. Gardant intact son talent pour la composition, le groupe emmené par Biff Byford lorgna définitivement vers les US avec ses albums suivants, Innocence Is No Excuse, Rock The Nations et Destiny, présentés aujourd'hui en version remasterisée. D'emblée très accrocheur avec le titre « Rockin' Again », Innocence Is No Excuse est un recueil de très bonne tenue puisqu'il contient « Devil Rides Out », également présent en live dans cette réédition, et l'imparable « Broken Heroes ». Saxon démontre ensuite toute sa virtuosité technique avec Rock The Nations où il flirte pour l'occasion avec le rock mainstream, aidé par ailleurs sur deux titres (« Party Til You Puke » et « Northern Lady ») par le piano discret d'Elton John. Poursuivant son virage FM, la formation livre enfin en 1988 un intéressant Destiny qui brille en particulier sur « Ride Like The Wind », « Calm Before The Storm » et « Jericho Siren ». Agrémentées de faces B, de mixes alternatifs et live, ces rééditions sont un régal pour les fans de Heavy Metal. Inclus 8 titres bonus.
