Résumé
« L'image artistique de ce jeune chef d'orchestre est formée par son attitude extrêmement sérieuse à l'égard de sa profession. Il est très exigeant envers lui-même... Kitaïenko prend la baguette uniquement lorsqu'il est totalement prêt pour travailler avec l'orchestre ». Voilà ce qu'a écrit en 1973 Evgueni Svetlanov, saluant dans la presse son jeune collègue de talent. Herbert von Karajan a émis un avis encore plus enthousiaste à propos de ce jeune chef d'orchestre soviétique : «...Aujourd'hui, sans nul doute il fait partie des cinq ou six meilleurs chefs d'orchestre du monde. C est un événement tout à fait extraordinaire... ».
