Paul Motian n'avait pas considéré qu'il puisse être lui-même leader avant qu'ECM ne lui propose d'enregistrer une session sous son propre nom. "Conception Vessel " ouvrait alors les vannes de sa créativité.
A travers ces enregistrements, nous entendons non seulement l'évolution de plusieurs ensembles remarquables - dont le trio Motian/Frisell/Lovano- mais également ses talents de compositeur de jazz unique.
