"J'ai découvert les Vêpres de Rachmaninov en les chantant au sein d'un choeur et ce fut un vrai choc émotionnel ! Cette musique offre une sensation d'évidence et de " simplicité " alors que son architecture est en réalité complexe et novatrice pour son époque dans le traitement quasi orchestral des voix... J'ai souhaité replacer cette oeuvre dans un contexte liturgique que j'ai imaginé en m'inspirant des offices orthodoxes auxquels j'ai eu la chance d'assister en Russie ou en Roumanie. La particularité et la beauté de cet office de Vigile (qui comprend chez les orthodoxes les Vêpres et les Matines), c'est d'accompagner les prières des fidèles de la tombée du jour jusqu'au lever du soleil." --- Simon-Pierre Bestion ---.
