Luisa Fernanda est l'une des zarzuelas les plus célèbres en Espagne. Elle a été pour la première fois représentée en 1932 et fait partie de l'inconscient collectif de tous les amoureux de l'Espagne.La distribution est menée par Placido Domingo, au sommet de son art, qui prend un plaisir manifeste à interpréter son rôle.Les autres chanteurs, tous espagnols, ne sont pas en reste. La mezzo-soprano Nancy Herrera incarne le rôle titre avec une superbe personnalité. Le Choeur et l'Orchestre du Teatro Real de Madrid est dirigé par un spécialiste de la zarzuela, Jesus Lopez Cobos.Cette production a été enregistrée live au Teatro Real en juin et juillet 2006.L'histoire se situe à Madrid (actes 1 et 2), et à Extremedura (acte 3) en 1868-1869, durant une période difficile de l'histoire espagnole connue sous le nom de "" la révolution glorieuse "" . l'intrigue repose sur l'amour et la politique.La musique est très évocatrice de l'Espagne, avec ses rythmes très caractéristiques, ses mélodies et ses couleurs instrumentales . on peut y trouver des réminiscences de Massenet et Gounod, et de la Tosca de Puccini ...
