L'édition marque deux événements. D'abord, c'était il y a 40 ans que Kiri Te Kanawa incarnait la comtesse Almaviva pour la première fois au Royal Opera House de Covent Garden à Londres le 1er décembre 1971.
Elle anticipe également 2012, l'année du 100ème anniversaire de la naissance de Sir Georg Solti.
Cet enregistrement de 1981 est LA référence des Noces de Figaro. La fougue de Solti et la prise de son Decca font que cette version n'a jamais perdu de sa brillance. Difficile de trouver ailleurs des interprètes plus mozartiens et plus captivants, le tout dans de telles conditions acoustiques.
