Résumé
Composé avant la 1ère Guerre Mondiale, Hugh the Dover ne fut donné qu'en 1924. Une première au Royal College of Music le 4 juillet 1924, puis une deuxième, le 14 juillet et une tournée par le British National Opera Company, tant et si bien que l'opéra devint très populaire. Le chef d'orchestre du BNOC était Malcolm Sargent, tout juste âgé de 29 ans dirigeait alors son premier opéra.
