C'est une histoire compliquée de sexe, de violence, de lubricité, d'inceste, de jalousie, de trahison . La distribution a été sélectionnée avec le plus grand soin et propose la fine fleur de la scène baroque d'aujourd'hui. On remarquera tout particulièrement les belles performances de Marijana Mijanovic et de Joyce DiDonato. Cet enregistrement est le premier à s'appuyer sur une nouvelle édition de l'opéra, celle qu'Haendel souhaitait et qu'il ajusta avant la première représentation de l'oeuvre, à cause de changements dans la distribution.
