Michel Portal et les Ebène ont commencé à se produire en concert à Paris en 2013, et Piazzolla figurait au programme, ce qui incita le Monde à parler d'une « importante leçon, une superbe rencontre, une vraie conversation. » Eternal stories pourrait être un des meilleurs albums que Michel Portal a enregistré.
Eternal stories est composé de créations, de deux nouveaux arrangements de compositions de Michel Portal, une oeuvre tardive de Piazzolla ainsi que de stupéfiantes contributions des membres du Quatuor Ébène.
