When Watchtower released their debut album "Energetic Disassembly" in 1985, they turned the metal world upside down. The material set completely new standards. Nobody was more innovative (and more extreme) at the time. Awkward style descriptions such as "jazz metal" or "techno thrash" are created. Watchtower were originally formed in Austin, Texas, in May 1982. That month, singer Jason McMaster was joined by bassist Doug Keyser, drummer Rick Colaluca and guitarist Billy White. In their early stages, Watchtower were heavily inspired by the NWOBHM and played songs by Iron Maiden, Angel Witch and Raven - plus, of course, several songs by the Canadian prog gods Rush. As a result, the band gradually developed their own individual style and recorded demos of their own songs. But the record companies didn't want to bite. For this reason, they decided to release the groundbreaking album "Energetic Disassembly" on their own label Zombo Records (3,500 LPs and 1,000 cassettes were pressed)."I can still vividly remember sending demo tapes to fanzines and exchanging letters with tapetraders almost daily," recalls singer Jason McMaster today. "I received letters from Gene Hoglan, Mike Portnoy, Jason Newsted and even Alan Tecchio, among others. The reactions were fantastic, but we just sounded so different. The labels didn't know how to market us at the time. Were we too extreme? I think so." To coincide with the 40th anniversary of "Energetic Disassembly", High Roller Records is not only releasing a de-luxe edition of the original album, but also a new mix. The re-mixes were done in 2009 by Jared Tuten, a close friend of JasonMcMaster, at Top Hat Studios. The icing on the cake are four bonus tracks: a kind of drum soundcheck called "Rick On Parade", the short guitar instrumental "BW115" and early versions of two songs that would later end up on the second Watchtower album, but here still with Jason McMaster on vocals - "Instruments Of Random Murder" and "The Eldritch". Jason McMaster left Watchtower in 1988 to join Dangerous Toys. His successor was Alan Tecchio (from Hades). Together with him, the second album "Control And Resistance" was recorded for Noise Records in West Berlin in 1989.Available as: - Slipcase 2CD + booklet- Original Mix 180g black vinyl, Limited 350, 425gsm heavy cardboard cover w/ silver hotfoil embossing, 2 x insert, A5 photo card, poster- Original Mix silver vinyl, Limited 300, 425gsm heavy cardboard cover w/ silver hotfoil embossing, 2 x insert, A5 photo card, poster- 2024 Remix with bonus tracks, 180g black vinyl, Limited 350, 425gsm heavy cardboard cover w/ golden hotfoil embossing, insert, A5 photo card- 2024 Remix with bonus tracks, golden vinyl, Limited 300, 425gsm heavy cardboard cover w/ golden hotfoil embossing, insert, A5 photo cardTracklist CDCD1: 1.
