El Malpais, du nom d'une région volcanique du Nouveau Mexique, nous entraîne le temps de huit titres dans un univers hallucinatoire et fiévreux, digne descendant du Jefferson Airplane et cousin des Black Angels et du Brian Jonestown Massacre. Pour autant Jim Younger's Spirit ne se complaît pas dans le revival et affirme encore plus avec cet opus un son et une personnalité originale. Guitares bluesy, fuzz, tambourins, batteries lourdes, maracas, orgues, guimbardes étranges, l'ensemble est porté par les incantations de la chanteuse Polar Younger.
