Des enfants

Entre "Hauts Plateaux" (Musea Parallèle, 1993) et son nouveau disque "Temporäre" (Great Winds, 2011), le fondateur du groupe NOËTRA, Jean LAPOUGE, a joué en trio avec Kent CARTER (Contrebasse) et Jeff BOUDREAUX (batterie) pendant une petite décennie. Le groupe enregistra trois fois pendant cette période. Le contexte est résolument jazz, permettant au compositeur d'expérimenter un nouveau type de composition et un jeu de guitare plus libre. La rythmique, elle, est royale. "Plaything" (Great Winds, 1994-2002) est issu de ces enregistrements et représente bien la volonté de chacun de servir au mieux ce qui compte en fait le plus: les idées musicales. "Temporäre" réunit quant à lui une instrumentation non-conventionnelle, incluant guitare, vibraphone (Christian PABOEUF) et trombone (Christiane BOPP). L'on peut également entendre du hautbois sur deux plages. Enregistré en mai 2009, le disque reflète très bien les concerts donnés par le groupe. L'accent, cette fois ci est mis la simplicité des morceaux et leur poésie intrinsèque...
L'équilibre délicat entre écriture et improvisation semble, d'après le compositeur, avoir été trouvé.
In between "Hauts Plateaux" (Musea Parallèle, 1993) and his latest effort "Temporäre" (Great Winds, 2011) Jean LAPOUGE, the founder of NOËTRA, played in a trio setting with Kent CARTER (Double-bass) and Jeff BOUDREAUX (Drums) for nearly a decade. The band went into the studio three times over this period. The musical context, resolutely jazz, allowed the composer to explore new directions in his compositions and guitar playing, the latter reveling in newfound freedom. The rhythm section is, simply put, brilliant. "Plaything" (Great Winds, 1994-2002) compiles those recording sessions, bearing testimony to the three musicians' dedication to what counts: the music.
"Temporäre" offers an unconventional instrumentation, based around guitar, vibraphone (Christian PABOEUF) and trombone (Christiane BOPP). One might even hear oboe on two tracks. Recorded in May 2009, the album reflects the band's live work. The accent here is on the tracks' simplicity and their inherent poetry... For the composer, the album strikes the delicate balance between composition and improvisation.
