Le Verbier Festival, Martha Argerich et Deutsche Grammophon créent l'évènement.
Martin Engstroem fonde le Verbier Festival en 1991, inauguré par Zubin Mehta et David Garrett. Son amitié avec Martha Argerich remonte à 1969, une époque où il était encore un jeune étudiant en musique.
Dès 1997, le Festival accueille la pianiste, elle y joue en solo, en formation de musique de chambre ou avec orchestre.
Nombreux sont les concerts exceptionnels qu'elle a donné avec des artistes comme Evgeny Kissin, Mikhaïl Pletnev, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Vadim Repin, Gil Shaham, Nigel Kennedy, Yuri Bashmet, Thomas Quasthoff et James Levine.
Le 27 juillet 2007, Martha Argerich a reçu "carte blanche" pour son programme et ses invités. Il en résulte un événement spectaculaire, avec la présence de:
Yuri Bashmet, Renaud Capuçon, Lang Lang, Mischa Maisky, Gabriela Montero et Julian Rachlin, à découvrir sur ce double album.
Cet enregistrement est le premier d'une série témoignant de l'immensité des talents qui se sont produits et continueront de se produire à Verbier.
