Résumé
Ce Requiem non liturgique fut commandé à Britten pour la re-consécration de la cathédrale de Coventry, détruite pendant la guerre, et créé le 30 mai 1962. Le compositeur anglais vit là une occasion de manifester son pacifisme et son horreur envers les atrocités de la guerre. C'est ainsi qu'il eut l'idée d'associer le cérémonial du Requiem à la poésie de Wilfred Owen, poète bien connu en Angleterre, disparu durant la Première Guerre mondiale.
Ce nouvel enregistrement réunit ce qui se fait de mieux aujourd'hui : l'immense soprano Anna Netrebko, le anglais Ian Bostridge, inégalable dans Britten, et le grand baryton Thomas Hampson, ces trois artistes étant emmenés par Antonio Pappano, habitué des grandes fresques religieuses qui nécessitent un engagement total mais aussi une maitrise absolue.
Un grand enregistrement qui sera salué par toute la presse.
