Résumé
L'année 1953 a été l'une des plus remplies de la carrière de BUD POWELL. Sorti de seize mois d'internement psychiatrique (où l'on sait qu'il subit nombre d'électro-chocs) le pianiste bop fut placé sous la tutelle d'OSCAR GOODSTEIN, son manager ainsi que le patron du Birdland, qui l'embaucha pour une période de vingt semaines au club mythique de Broadway. Ce travail régulier lui permit de retrouver pêche et virtuosité, d'échapper à une dépression récurrente et de prouver une nouvelle fois qu'il était bien l'"Amazing Bud Powell", révéré de milliers d'amateurs de jazz de par le monde. On retrouve sur ce coffret de 3 CD, la crème de la crème de quatorze prestations (effectuées en compagnie de CHARLIE PARKER, CHARLIE MINGUS, etc), s'étalant du 7 février au 26 septembre 1953. Colossal.
