Mehmet Polat est un musicien international accompli, joueur d'Oud virtuose, compositeur, meneur d'ensembles musicaux, et soloiste. De l'Afrique à l'Inde, de Perse aux Balkans, du jazz à la musique contemporaine, il marie les genres musicaux avec sa spiritualité Alevi et son expérience de la musique classique Ottomane et du folklore d'Anatolie. Dans ses improvisations, ses compositions, et son intégration de genres musicaux variés,Mehmet cherche constamment de nouvelles perspectives musicales. Après des années de recherche, il a inventé ses propres techniques pour dépasser les limites de son instrument. Sa technique de main gauche inédite permet de jouer des pièces modernes et innovantes. Il a aussi conçu un Oud avec 2 cordes de basse supplémentaires, pour élargir la palette de son instrument.
