La réédition de "Absent Friends" dans le cadre des 30 ans du groupe! Absent Friends est sorti en 2004. Neil dit au sujet de l’album : « Les chansons utilisent des histoires et personnages comme des cadres pour exprimer mes idées. L’album parle surtout de la lutte entre l’attraction vers la liberté personnelle et le confort de la vie de famille ». On y retrouve la participation de Yann Tiersen. L’édition CD comprend 2 disques : l’album remasterisé et un second CD de titres bonus (Faces B, demos et prises alternatives choisies par Neil Hannon - la plupart totalement inédites).
Le CD vient avec un livret de photos et de notes écrites par Neil qui traitent du contexte et des inspirations derrière cet album et ces morceaux.
L’édition LP comprend l’album original remasterisé avec un code de téléchargement pour l’album et les titres bonus.
Le LP est un heavyweight gatefold noir avec photos, credits et notes de Neil.
