Réalisée par Gérard De Smaele, un des grands spécialistes du banjo à cinq cordes, cette anthologie défriche les enregistrements anciens des grands modernisateurs oubliés du banjo dit "classique", parmi eux : Fred Van Eps ou Vess Ossman. Elle dévoile un pan majeur de l'histoire du célèbre instrument, dont certains aspects de la technique de jeu se ressentent encore jusque dans le bluegrass moderne. À partir des sources collectées par Wayne Adams (Toronto, 1929-2013), voici une exploration historique inédite du répertoire de l’instrument populaire de référence du continent nord-américain.
