Résumé
Parmi la musique de chambre de Tansman, une place importante est occupée par les quatuors à cordes, considérés par le compositeur lui-même comme la forme musicale la plus pure : « On ne peut pas tricher dans un quatuor », disait-il. Tansman en a composés neuf, et ils ont été créés au cours de quarante ans de son voyage créatif. Les trois compositions enregistrées sur l'album proviennent de la première période, à savoir de 1925, 1930 et 1935. Ils sont liés à la fois dans le style et l'expression et constituent l'arc du compositeur à la tradition de presque deux siècles du genre.
