"La Chanson De Duke" éclaire un des aspects les plus énigmatiques de la personnalité de Duke Ellington.
Ce grand homme, compositeur, pianiste et chef d'orchestre, exceptionnellement créatif et original, semble ne s'être pas vraiment aperçu qu'il comptait également parmi les grands "songwriters" américains de son siècle !
Claude Carrière, grand spécialiste de l'histoire du jazz et plus particulièrement du Duke s'est donc attaché à travers les 105 titres que comptent ce coffret à nous révéler, copieusement, le meilleur des chansons d'Ellington et de Billy Strayhorn et des musiciens associés à leur oeuvre.

Claude Carrière a été producteur de radio sur France Musique de 1975 à 2008 (notamment « Jazz Club » de 1982 à 2008) et Journaliste pour les magazines Jazz Hot (1968-1980), Jazzman, Jazz Magazine. Il est également co-auteur du Guide Akai du Jazz (1979-1985), l'auteur-concepteur de nombreuses séries de disques pour RCA, Masters Of Jazz, Dreyfus Jazz, Vogue, Sagajazz, Black and Blue, BD Jazz, CABU, Cristal Records (collection Original Sound Deluxe) etc... Il est par ailleurs Président d'honneur de l'Académie du Jazz, Président d'honneur de l'association La Maison du Duke, Président de l'association Grands Formats pour la promotion des grands orchestres de jazz et Membre de l'Académie Charles Cros. Enfin, Claude Carrière est pianiste, spécialiste du répertoire de Duke Ellington et Billy Strayhorn. Et a réalisé deux albums avec le Chamber Jazz Quintet (Rebecca Cavanaugh, Fred Loiseau, Marie-Christine Dacqui, Bruno Ziarelli) et André Villéger chez Black and Blue “Looking Back » et « For all we knows ».
